i. What is meant by Pollution?
Pollution is the addition of harmful material into the environment. These harmful substances are called pollutants.

ii. What are the cause of greenhouse effect?
The greenhouse effect is caused by Carbon dioxide (CO2), water vapours and dust particles which absorb the terrestrial heat emission and keep the lower atmosphere warm for life.

iii. Name the types of pollution.

1. Water Pollution
2. Land / Soil Pollution
3. Air Pollution
4. Noise Pollution
5. Light Pollution

iv. Suggest strategies to reduce air pollution.

1. Reduce the number of vehicles on road.
2. Reduce deforestation as trees absorb carbon dioxide (CO₂) and other air pollutants.
3. Reduce the use of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) as release of CFCs damage the ozone layer.

v. What is meant by global warming?
Global warming is the gradual rise in the average temperature of Earth due to the greenhouse effect.

Vi. Enlist the Causes of noise pollution.

1. Unnecessary and careless use of modern audio/ video equipment.
2. Sub-standard home appliances in our domestic life promote noise pollution.
3. Non-observance of procedures for reducing noise pollution in commercial, industrial, constructional activities.
